Not. At. All.

No freakin’ way.

Well, until Keane convinced me to fall for him, that is.

As they exchange information, I make my way to the end of my aisle and loop into theirs, not taking my eyes off Baby Face the whole time. Shit. This dude’s hunting Maddy so hard, it’s making my blood boil. Jesus, he’s going full-throttle rifle on Maddy’s ass right now, completely foregoing his crossbow altogether.

When I reach the two of them in the middle of their aisle, I shuffle past the dude and stand next to Maddy, shoulder to shoulder, and then, on a sudden impulse, put my arm around her shoulders and squeeze her tight, making her wobble in place at the unexpected jolt to her balance. “Hey, sis,” I say, squeezing her like a rag doll. “You totally fell down on your candy-acquiring duties.”

“I know. I’m sorry.” She subtly wiggles out of my grasp. “Brian and I got into this hilarious argument about the best candy bar of all- time, and—”

“And I’m totally right,” Brian says, cutting her off, and they both chuckle at some inside joke.

“No, I’m totally right,” Maddy corrects.

Brian smiles at her. “I’ll actually be down in L.A. in a month. How ’bout I call you then?”

“Great.”

“Nice to meet you, man,” Brian says, looking at me. He nods but doesn’t put out his hand.

I nod back.

Brian strolls away, buys a Snickers bar and a can of Red Bull, and leaves with a little wave to Maddy.

The minute he’s out the door, Maddy takes a giant step away from me, her face etched with annoyance. “What was that?” she asks.

“What?”


“That weird thing you just did?”


“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”


Maddy puts on an exaggerated scowl, like she’s Hulk Hogan eying an opponent. “’Hey, Brian,’” she says in a low voice, clearly intending to imitate me but sounding more like Arnold Schwarzenegger imitating Maddy imitating me. “’I’m Maddy Milliken’s bodyguard and I’m going to beat you the hell up now,’” she adds.

“What are you talking about?” I say, chuckling.

Maddy pauses, assessing me, and finally shrugs. “Nothing. I guess I imagined it.”

“Imaged what?”

“Your weird… I dunno… vibe.”


“Oh, well, yeah. I was worried about you.”


“Worried about me? I was standing in a minimart, buying candy. Pretty low-risk activity, I’d say.”


“Uh, you absolutely were not standing in a minimart, buying candy—you totally fell down on that job, dude. You were standing in a minimart, getting picked up by a douche. And second of all—”

“What?”

Shit. What the fuck am I doing? I’ve got to stop this shit right now. “Don’t get riled up, baby doll,” I say in my most soothing voice. “All I’m saying is you took so damned long in here, I started thinking maybe the store was getting robbed or you’d fallen into the toilet or something.”

Maddy twists her mouth. “Brian didn’t seem the least bit douchey to me.”

I shrug.
“What gave you the impression he’s a douche?”


“Just a figure of speech. So are you gonna do the job I hired you to do or not?” I motion to the candy rack. “‘Cause based on your performance thus far, you’re totally fired.”

“And I wasn’t getting ‘picked up,’” Maddy says, her tone full of indignation. “Brian’s brother goes to UCLA. Can’t I talk to a helpful, nice guy without it being some sort of a sleazy pick-up?”

“Sure you can. However, in this instance, you were talking to a helpful, nice guy who was picking you up so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

“Keane.” Maddy’s cheeks burst with color. “Don’t say that. Oh my god. You’re insane. Brian was just being helpful, that’s all.”

“Yeah, so he can bone the living fuck outta ya.”

“Stop saying that. Please. It’s offensive and absolutely not true. This topic of conversation is officially over.”

Keane Morgan also known as Pall Peen Hammer or Peen to his friends and family is Seattle’s version of Magic Mike, every girls fantasy all rolled up into one nice package. When Keane starts to receive cryptic text messages from someone named Maddy, he plays it off as a wrong number or a forgotten one night stand. Maddy Milliken is going to school in California for film after taking a year off. She is moving in with her sister, and is making the trip from Seattle to California by herself.  When he sister lets her know that her neighbor has offered to give her his parking spot in return for a favor, pick up his brother and bring his along to California. This sounds like the perfect idea only problem is she can’t get a hold of him to finalize the details.

When he finally responds back the Maddy he only accomplishes to tick her off and she says that she is leaving without him, confused by her statement he contacts his brother only to find out Maddy is the sister of a family friend who is moving to California and that his brother has offered him out to go along for the ride with her. After a phone call back to Maddy by his brother pretending to be him and an apology have Keane packing his bag and setting off to California. His brother only has one rule set out for him don’t sleep with Maddy…how hard can that be?

Ball Peen Hammer is full of the funniest lines I’ve have ever read, and it is non-stop sexiness. I mean this book is off the charts hot! The Strip routine that Keane does is wow I have no words I felt like I was in the room watching it. Lauren Rowe also had me updating my Spotify play list thanks to the mention of some songs .This is the first book I’ve read by Lauren Rowe, and it blew me away. Hopefully we will get to see more of these crazy and lovable characters in the future.

I pushed my glasses up the bridge of my nose as I reread the letter from my brother for the millionth time since I received it two days ago. It stated two things. One, my uncle passed away. My godfather and dear friend was gone. And two, I had to go home.

I wasn’t jumping for joy about either fact.

I looked up from the worn paper Lochlan’s letter was scribbled upon and gazed out the window of the train I was sitting inside.

She grabs my kindle and turns it on, reading from the page I’m on. “Veronica opened her legs, inside was a moist mixture of juices I couldn’t wait to taste.” She shudders. “Yeesh, it gives me the creeps even repeating it. That damn word makes poor Veronica sound like a washcloth or even worse, a cake. Cakes are moist, not vaginas. Vaginas need to be wet, possibly slick, but never moist.”“You do realize you said the word moist three times in the same sentence, right?”

“Damn it. See it should be forbidden I tell you. From now on moi . . . that word, is forbidden in my presence. You must find another word to use.”

“But what if I make you a moist vagina cake for your birthday? Can I say the word then?” I joke, grinning over my kindle.

“I swear if I didn’t love you, Symone, I’d strangle you. Please don’t ruin cake for me by making it in the likeness of a twat. At least make it shaped like a dong.” She tries her best to sound serious, but then I catch her smiling at her toes. Here it comes . . . one . . . two . . . any second now . . . she should start laughing in t-minus ten . . . nine . . . eight. And there it is, the hysterical hyena laugh Staci has become famous for. She covers her mouth and glares at me.

“You did that on purpose!”

“What?”

“Made me laugh, you know how much I hate my laugh.”

“Isn’t that the point of a joke, to make people laugh? Besides, I only mentioned making you a vagina cake. You took it a step farther by calling it a twat and requesting a moist dong instead.”

Pop is a sexy and entertaining read that is smoking hot!  I was not able to put this book down; from the very first words I was hooked. The characters have amazing chemistry and did I mention how smoking hot of a read this was?  This book does end in a cliffhanger, and I seriously need book two asap! Trust me this is a must read! I cannot wait for more from this amazing author.

For the love of marshmallows Rachel Van Dyken does it again with another smash hit! We first met Zane in Capture book one of the Seaside Pictures series. The lovable and eccentric Zane had us falling for his crazy marshmallow addiction and his virgin confession. In Keep we get to meet the real Zane. Residing in Seaside to help AD2 with a movie soundtrack, Zane Andrews aka Saint is suffering from lack of inspiration for his own album. When Zane meets the nerdy Fallon, he never would have expected that she would be the one to help him or the crazy bond the two would form. Fallon has always been the nerdy girl, never in a million years would she expect to be playing tour guide for the sexy Rock Star that is Zane Andrews. Smoking hot chemistry, stolen kisses and tons of marshmallows Zane and Fallon try to fight the connection they have. When fears and secrets from the past arise, will Fallon and Zane be able to overcome them?

There is something about Rachel’s writing that leaves you breathless and after reading Keep I will never be able to look at a marshmallow without thinking about this book.
